Where was Frankenstein (1931) filmed?
3 locations on the HorrorMeet Atlas.
- Vasquez Rocks Natural Area
The tilted sandstone slabs here stood in for the mountains above Frankenstein's village, where Henry separates from the search party and is cornered by the Monster. The park is open daily as the Vasquez Rocks Natural Area and Nature Center in Agua Dulce.
- Malibou Lake
The lakeside where the Monster meets little Maria and drowns her was shot at Malibou Lake in the Santa Monica Mountains. The lake itself sits inside a gated private community, so it can only be glimpsed from Mulholland Highway.
- Little Europe backlot street, Universal Studios Hollywood
Most of the village exteriors for Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein were shot on Universal's European village sets. The sets standing today are a 1967 rebuild after a fire destroyed the originals, and they are seen from the Studio Tour tram rather than on foot.
