Where was Escape from New York (1981) filmed?
9 locations on the HorrorMeet Atlas.
- Sepulveda Dam, Los Angeles
The 1941 flood-control dam is the brutalist concrete structure standing in for the air traffic control center and the fortified bridge out of Manhattan. It is still in place in the Sepulveda Basin and visible from the recreation area.
- ArtCenter College of Design Hillside Campus, Pasadena
The long steel-and-glass building on Lida Street gave the film its cold institutional corridors during Snake Plissken's briefing. It is still an active art and design college campus.
- The Wiltern, 3790 Wilshire Boulevard
The 1931 Wiltern Theatre and its basement supplied interiors for the World Trade Center sequences. It was saved from demolition in the 1980s and now operates as a concert venue.
- Fabulous Fox Theatre, St. Louis
The Fox facade appears as a derelict Broadway theatre, and it was genuinely rundown when the crew shot it. It has since been fully restored and is one of the busiest theatres in the Midwest.
- New Masonic Temple, 3681 Lindell Boulevard, St. Louis
The columned Masonic temple stood in for the New York Public Library that Plissken searches for the President. The Masons sold the building in 2014 and it has been converted to apartments.
- St. Louis Union Station
The disused train sheds and the Grand Hall provided the railway scenes and a major fight. The station has since been converted into a hotel, aquarium and retail complex.
- Old Chain of Rocks Bridge, St. Louis
The mined 69th Street Bridge that Plissken drives across in the finale is this kinked 1929 span over the Mississippi. It was closed to cars in 1968 and reopened in 1999 as a pedestrian and bicycle bridge on Route 66.
- Doheny Memorial Library, USC
The lobby of USC's 1932 main library doubled for the interior of the New York Public Library. It is still the university's central library.
- Century Plaza Towers, Century City
The twin triangular towers stand in for the entrance to the World Trade Center in the film's opening. Both towers still dominate the Century City skyline.
